Dr. Andreas Mogensen will give a lecture on space exploration and his recent mission to the International Space Station (ISS) at the University of Iceland´s Aula on 18 March at 12 pm.
Mogensen is the first Dane selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) to be part of a mission on board the International Space Station. On 2 September, 2015, the astronaut boarded spacecraft Soyuz TMA-18 headed to the space station where he spent ten days. Mogensen received the Danish Royal Medal of Recompense for his accomplishments.
Mogensen was selected as an astronaut for the ESA astronaut programme in May 2009. The documentary project THE MEANING OF LIFE (http://themeaningoflifethemovie.com), directed by Miguel Gonçalves Mendes, has followed Mogensen’s training for this mission: from his testing at ESA to his stay at JAXA (Japan’s Space Agency) to the intense training process at the NASA facilities in Houston; the relationship between Andreas and his wife during the astronaut’s quarantine in Kazakhstan; immediately followed by his launch into space. Andreas will be in Iceland in March with the filming crew and it has been his dream for some time to see the northern lights.
Mogensen, who has a Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin, will give a 45 minute talk at the University of Iceland on space exploration and his mission on the ISS, followed by a 15 minute Q&A. Moderator is Kristinn Andersen, Professor of Robotics, artificial intelligence and industrial applications at Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
The lecture will be given in English, is open to everyone, and admission is free.
