The conference, Fræði og fjölmenning 2016 (Academia and Multiculturalism 2016) will be held at the University of Iceland on Saturday 6 February from 10 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. The aim of the conference is to communicate and create knowledge in the field of multiculturalism. The conference focuses on how Icelandic academics and professionals can co-operate to further knowledge in this field, and how the University of Iceland can contribute to the general dialogue in society. The target group of this conference is academics, professionals, students and those interested in multiculturalism. Lectures will be held in both Icelandic and English.
Diverse lectures that cover subjects such social services, health care, participation in the labour market, education, pedagogy, sports and leisure, history, religion, culture and languages, anthropology, law, economics, business and politics will be held in numerous symposia; each with its own special focus. One symposium will be held entirely in English; “A University Programme with “The Whole World as a Focus”: Supporting and expanding an international education programme in Iceland.” Furthermore, two lectures will be held in English within the symposium Kennsluaðferðir í fjölbreyttum nemendahópum (Teaching methods in diverse groups of students) "Upper Secondary Teachers‘ Pedagogical Practice in Culturally Diverse Classrooms" and "I talk more when the teacher uses drama". Using drama teaching immigrant pupils," and one lecture within the symposium “Learning Spaces for Inclusion and Social Justice: Success Stories from Immigrant Students and School Communities in Iceland.” The speakers are UI students and lecturers as well as representatives from the University’s co-organisers.
