Japan festival at the University of Iceland

The University of Iceland Japan Festival will be held on Saturday 30 January 2016 at Háskólatorg, University of Iceland. This year’s marks the twelfth time the Japan Festival is held by the department of Japanese language and Culture at the University of Iceland. The event is jointly organized by the Embassy of Japan and the Japanese Language and Culture Course of the School of Humanities at the University of Iceland. 

Guests are invited to experience Japan through various activities and presentations. They can sample the flavours of Japan at the food booth, learn to write their names in Japanese letters at the calligraphy booth, and become acquainted with the Japanese language at the language booth. Guests are also invited to attend a tea ceremony where they will taste traditional Japanese tea and to observe both a fashion show highlighting traditional culture as well as a cosplay competition highlighting the best of anime and manga costume making in Iceland.

The downstairs will be devoted to arts, crafts and games, and guest can try their hand at folding origami, drawing manga and playing with traditional Japanese toys. There will also be a computer gaming room. Thus plenty for the kids (of all ages) to experience and try out.

General information about the Japanese studies course and the various scholarships and exchange programs to Japanese Universities will be available during the festival, as well as information on the Iceland-Japan Society and the Japan Alumni Association of Iceland.

The Japanese community in Iceland will gracefully contribute to the festival by presenting Ikebana flower arrangements. Admission to the Festival is free and open to the general public. 

The Festival will begin at 1 p.m. and will be open until 5 p.m.
