International days at University of Iceland

The University of Iceland welcomes our international students by organising an orientation week at the beginning of the autumn semester. The aim is to introduce students to the support services offered, meet fellow students and help them adjust to a new culture. In order to facilitate getting around campus, the Student Council organises guided walks around the many University buildings. Over six hundred international students begin their studies at the University of Iceland this semester.

The orientation week begins on 24 August and the programme includes various courses, organised walks around campus, receptions with music and light refreshments, School welcome meetings and events organised by the Student Council.

The courses include, The Student Counselling and Career Centre “The Keys to Success at the University of Iceland” introducing keys that open doors to success during your academic stay at the University of Iceland. Furthermore, enthusiastic students can participate in a crash course in Icelandic - Icelandic in 90 minutes – a difficult language by reputation! The National and University Library of Iceland will also introduce their services; opening hours and reference searching.

One of the highlights is the welcome reception on Wednesday 26 August in Háskólatorg. Dr. Jón Atli Benediktsson, the Rector of the University of Iceland will address students as well as Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson, the Chairman of the International Committee of the Student Council.
