A record number of graduates, or 2,081 students, receive their graduate and undergraduate certificates from the University of Iceland tomorrow, Saturday 20 June. There will be two ceremonies for this occasion; the last two for our current Rector, Kristín Ingólfsdóttir.
At the first ceremony, at 10.30 a.m., graduate students receive their certificates. There are in all 772 candidates graduate who graduate with 779 degrees. The ceremony is for the students who are completing their graduate studies; i.e. in master studies and post-graduate diplomas.
The second ceremony, at 2 p.m., is for students in undergraduate studies, i.e. BA, B.Ed. and BS studies. The graduation candidates are 1,309 in total completing 1,319 degrees.
The total number of graduation candidates from the University of Iceland this June is thus 2,081 with 2,098 degrees.
Candidates receive their certificates according to their seat number, in the following order: School of Social Sciences, School of Health Sciences, School of Humanities, School of Education and School of Engineering and Natural Sciences.
As 476 students graduated from the University of Iceland last February the total number of graduates this year has climbed to almost 2,600 students.
Rector Kristín Ingólfsdóttir will graduate her last candidates tomorrow as Rector of the University of Iceland, as she will leave office at the end of this month. Since she took office in July 2005 around 24 thousand students have graduated from the University of Iceland, and considering the average number of students that participate in graduation ceremonies it can be assumed that she has shaken hands with around 17 thousand students during this time.
