The Icelandic Science Train is an award winning "mobile university" designed by the University of Iceland for young people that has toured Iceland since 2011. The University Train offers dynamic and exciting presentations of science and innovation for the public at every stop. The aim is to communicate science to people of all ages with a diverse programme that will both educate and entertain. On board the train are, among others, University scientists, lecturers and graduate students.
The crew's ambition is to show the value and content of science; on a global and local scale. The crew of the train offers free courses for primary school children, in close collaboration with the local schools. However, the programme is not all work and no play as is crystallised in the amazing science party open to everyone!
The Science Train provides unique opportunities for reaching remote areas and communities that rarely have access to such events, thus opening up new possibilities of social inclusion. The Science train received the Science Communication Award in Iceland in 2012.
This year’s schedule includes Höfn í Hornafirði (7-9 May), Vopnafjörður (14-17 May) Langanesbyggð (21-23 May) and Húsavík (28-30 May)
