Green Days is an annual event organised by GAIA – the student association of the Environment and Natural Resource Interdisciplinary Graduate Programme at the University of Iceland. The aim of this event is to raise awareness of environmental and sustainability issues, both within the university and beyond, but this year's theme is the ocean. Green days will be held from March 25th to 27th 2015.
Among events is the screening of the movie Mission Blue, Wednesday 25th of Marc at 16:00. Mission Blue is a documentary about legendary oceanographer, marine biologist, environmentalist and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Sylvia Earle and her campaign to create a global network of protected marine sanctuaries.
A panel will be moderated and hosted by Guðni Elísson about climate change and ocean acidification. Ocean acidification has been called “climate change’s equally evil twin.” Panellists include Karen Kjartansdóttir from Fisheries Iceland (SFS), Sólveig Rósa Ólafsdóttir the head of the Marine Environment department at the Marine Research Institute, Árni Finnsson from the Iceland Nature Conservation Association, and Sesselja Bjarnadóttir, a specialist in the Oceans, Water and Climate department at the Ministry for the Environment. The panel will take place in Stúdentakjallarinn from 11:30-12:30 on Friday, March 26th.
Furthermore, there will be interesting lectures, art show, beach cleanup and a pub quiz.
