Aurora for students

Aurora allows students to integrate meaningful international experiences into their studies and empowers them to participate in societal innovation and building a sustainable society.

The student voice should shape Aurora's policy development, projects, and innovation.

Student participation within Aurora is threefold:

  • participation in courses and opportunities,
  • Aurora Student Ambassadors,
  • Aurora Student Council.

The general student population engages in Aurora’s work through studying at an Aurora university. They can sit Aurora courses, attend workshops, lectures, and other student events for personal and professional development.

Aurorarised courses are international and often interdisciplinary. They also have a connection to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. They help students broaden their horizons and collaborate with people from other disciplines to gain hands-on experience in practical problem-solving.

Students can take Aurora courses at their own university, allowing them to benefit from internationalisation at home, or at other Aurora universities, either virtually or with a mobility component. Students who are accepted for a course or an event organised by Aurora that includes a stay abroad can apply for a grant.

Don't hesitate to get in touch with aurora@hi.is for further information.

The Aurora Student Ambassadors

Students who want to increase their involvement with Aurora can sign up as Aurora Ambassadors.

Through this role, students are given the opportunity to take part in a variety of online and in-person events, with students from all Aurora Universities. Aurora Ambassadors are offered several international workshops and opportunities for collaboration that will boost their personal and professional development. Additionally, Ambassadors can apply for in-person events not available outside of the programme, such as the Aurora Student Conference and Aurora Annual Conference.

The Aurora Student Council

The ASC consists of two student representatives from each member university. The Council is the most direct way for students to shape the work of Aurora. The ASC is led by an elected president and vice president who cooperate with senior management to advance Aurora’s mission and guarantee that student’s interests are represented in all of Aurora’s work. The council’s role is to represent Aurora’s students and ensure a continual student focus, to collaborate on developing and implementing student initiatives, to improve student representation at a local level, and to engage in external events on behalf of Aurora.

The University of Iceland’s representatives within the Aurora Student Council are:

  • Snæfríður Blær Tindsdóttir, International Office of the Student Council at the University of Iceland
  • Jóhann Almar Sigurðsson, UI Student Council's Aurora Representative
