Opportunities for university students in innovation both within and outside of the university, guidance on how to present oneself in the job market and invest in the future, meetings with municipalities as workplaces, and a visit to the software company Tern System are among the activities offered to students of the University of Iceland during Career Days, taking place from 3 to 7 February.
Career Days have been held in recent years at the initiative of the University of Iceland's Career Centre and Student Counselling in collaboration with various partners both within and outside the university. Career Days aims to educate students at all university levels about career development and support their participation in the job market after graduation. Each day of the week has a specific theme, and a diverse programme of presentations, lectures, visits, and discussions will be offered. Events will take place either on-site or online.
The programme begins on Monday, 3 February, with an opening event in the Gróska Celebration Hall from 11:00 to 12:00, where the support students can receive within the university to develop their innovation ideas and the opportunities available to work in innovation will be discussed. Immediately afterwards, guests can talk with representatives from various exciting start-ups looking for employees by the Gróska Green Wall. Light refreshments will be offered by the University of Iceland Science Park.
The Finance and Business Committee of the Student Council will organize the event "Invest in the Future!" at Litla Torg on Tuesday, 4 February. Students will receive information on how to stand out in job searches, what to consider before investing, the options available in supplementary pension savings, and where to seek financial advice. Háma will provide refreshments and drinks.
On Wednesday, 5 February, various events will take place, including workshops on creating resumes and cover letters and how doctoral students can establish themselves in the job market, whether they intend to work in academia or elsewhere. Several other events will take place throughout the week. Additionally, participants can learn how to practice becoming an effective leader.
The "Meet the Municipalities" event will occur on Thursday, 6 February. Representatives from eight municipalities in the South-west will present their varied activities and job opportunities. This is an excellent opportunity for students to inquire about the opportunities available within the municipalities. Human resources advisers from the municipalities will be on-site to provide sound advice on the application process.
Career Days will conclude on Friday, 7 February, with a visit to the software company Tern Systems. For many years, Tern Systems has been developing software for air traffic control. This offers students in computer science, engineering, and natural sciences an excellent opportunity to learn about future job opportunities. Note that the number of guests is limited, so registration is required.
The Career Days programme is organised in collaboration with the University of Iceland's Student Counselling, Careers Connection, Finance and Business Committee of the Student Council, Graduate School, Science Park, and KLAK - Icelandic Startups.
