The University of Iceland has awarded 23 grants to support active engagement of academics in society based on their research and specialised knowledge. This is the second time such grants are allocated.

The grants aim to create leeway for academics to "converse with society". Close collaboration with parties outside of the University has always been an integral part of its operations, and these grants are meant to further strengthen this part of University of Iceland's activities.

Over 32 million krona were allocated this time for projects from all of the University schools and the Institute of Research Centres. The gender balance is almost complete. The projects receiving the grants are diverse in nature, ranging from making educational material on microorganism, a website on literature by Icelandic women, podcasts on anthropology, a dictionary for children in kindergarten, a documentary on the reality of transgender people, the beginning of bioengineering in Iceland, social engagement among children with different backgrounds, to monitoring and mediating information on natural hazard, conferences and seminars and much more that can prove useful to Icelandic society in various ways.

The quality of the applications was excellent which is a good example of the dynamic work conducted within the University of Iceland in social engagement and innovation.

The University of Iceland thanks all applicants for their contribution to social engagement. Heartfelt congratulations to all awardees hoping that the grant will be of good use.

Information on the grantees' names and projects can be found here.
