Runner in the University Run

Over 100 students and staff braved the weather and took part in the University Run on Tuesday, 14 April. This is the 15th time the University Run has been held in its current format.

The aim of the University Run is to bring together students and staff for a fun on-campus event and to contribute to a healthier campus community. The run was organised by the University's Divisions of Marketing and Public Relations and Human Resources.

As in previous years, runners could choose between two routes, 3K and 7K. The 3 K route was by Suðurgata, to Reykjavík airport and passing Vatnsmýri Nature Reserve. This year, a new seven-kilometre running route was offered by Suðurgata, extending to Ægisíða and then returning along the coast and around Skerjafjörður, continuing to Reykjavik Airport, and along the nature reserve in Vatnsmýri.

Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, former president of Iceland and professor at the university — and an avid runner — started the race and also took part. The weather was wet and windy; nevertheless, participants seemed to enjoy the run. In total, 114 participants were registered, and it is safe to say that it was a multinational group; participants were of 26 nationalities.

Those who finished in the top three places in each route were awarded. They are:
