A total of 2,832 will graduate with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the University of Iceland on Saturday 24 June. This is the highest number of people ever to graduate from UI on a single day. There will be two graduation ceremonies taking place in Laugardalshöll, both of which will be livestreamed for anyone who would like to watch.
In the first graduation ceremony, which starts at 10 am, undergraduate and postgraduate candidates from the School of Social Sciences, the School of Health Sciences and the School of Humanities will receive their degree certificates. A total of 606 students are graduating from the School of Social Sciences, 570 from the School of Health Sciences and 167 from the School of Humanities.

The second graduation ceremony, which starts at 1.30 pm, is for undergraduate and postgraduate candidates from the School of Education and the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences. 543 students will be graduating from the School of Education and 275 from the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

In addition 677 candidates will graduate with undergraduate and postgraduate diplomas. All in all, a total of 2,832 candidates will graduate from the University of Iceland on Saturday, receiving 2,840 degree certificates. This breaks the record set last year, when 2,594 students graduated.
As in previous years, Jón Atli Benediktsson, rector of the University of Iceland, will deliver an address at both ceremonies. Rakel Anna Boulter, who will graduate with a BA in comparative literature, and Alec Elías Sigurðarson, who will graduate with an MS in chemistry, will also give speeches at their respective ceremonies on behalf of the candidates. Guests will also enjoy a performance by musician Árný Margrét.
The University of Iceland awarded degrees to 505 candidates in February, meaning that the total number of graduates so far this year is now 3,337.
The candidates have already received a letter providing further details about the ceremony and University staff will be on hand to guide candidates to their seats.
