The Centre for Arctic Studies offers an exciting course this spring semester open to all master's students in all fields of study. Arctic Resilience through Climate Action, Development, and Education (ARCADE) aims to answer a call for innovative ways to meet the challenge of the fast-changing Arctic with a programmeme that focuses on creative solutions with an interdisciplinary approach. It aims to equip students with the tools to influence policymakers and to present their research to the media and the general public. Registration deadline is 6 November.
ARCADE, Arctic Resilience through Climate Action, Development, and Education, is a six-month, multidisciplinary intensive programme (10 ECTS) designed for a competitively selected cohort of ten pioneering graduate students. Running from January to June 2026, the programme brings together Master’s and PhD students from across disciplines to explore the social, environmental, and political dimensions of climate change in the Arctic and West Nordic regions.
Climate change is the biggest global challenge in the world today and has more immediate and severe consequences for the Arctic, than any other world region. ARCADE aims to answer a call for innovative ways to meet the challenge of the fast-changing Arctic with a programme that focuses on creative solutions with an interdisciplinary approach. It will give the students tools to influence policymakers and present their research to the media and the general public.
ARCADE will also create a much-needed network of future practitioners within the Arctic. The students will participate in two intensive programmes in Iceland and Greenland, providing them with the unique opportunity to explore the dramatic effects of climate change in the region.
The course consists of two week-long, in-person modules in Iceland (in February) and in Greenland (in June), in addition to students attending online classes and working on group projects between sessions. This allows students to enhance their ability to present academic research to the public, media, and stakeholders both verbally and in writing.
Master's students from all five University schools can apply, and further information can be found here.
Applications can be sent to arcade@hi.is by 6 November.
