The Universities of Iceland and Hólar will this summer run an archaeological field school, in collaboration with The Cultural Heritage Agency of Iceland, at Hofstaðir in Mývatnsveit in Northern Iceland. The school, which is intended for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate archaeology students, will be operational between July 14th - 9th August 2025.
This is the second year of the field school, in 2024 students from seven universities in Europe and North America attended the school. It is however built on older foundations, between 1996-2013 the Institute of Archaeology, Iceland operated a field school in the Mývatn area and later Vatnsfjörður in collaboration with several universities, including the University of Iceland. Many of the students who attended the school continued working in Icelandic/North Atlantic archaeology, and dozens of student dissertations and theses pay testament to that.
For further information see the field school home page, the application deadline is March 17th.
