The NUAS group infront of UI's Main Building

Almost 30 administrators from Nordic universities came to the University of Iceland this spring to take part in a leadership course offered regularly by NUAS.

The UI Science and Innovation Prize winners 2026.

Alexandra K. Hafsteinsdóttir received the President of Iceland Innovation Prize on Tuesday

Alexandra K. Hafsteinsdóttir, a geology student at the University of Iceland, has received the President of Iceland’s Innovation Award for the project Mapping Groundwater on the Reykjanes Peninsula. She accepted the award from Halla Tómasdóttir, President of Iceland, at a ceremonial event held at Bessastaðir on Tuesday.

The Surtsey Research Society recently published Surtsey Research 16. The publication comprises nine articles written by 24 authors from six different nationalities. Among them are researchers from the University of Iceland.

Almost 90 Doctoral Graduates who have successfully completed their PhDs from the University of Iceland over the past 12 months were today awarded the University's gold medal at the annual Ceremony for Doctoral Graduates.

 

The award board is now accepting nominations for the 2025 International Vigdís Prize. Nominations must include reasons for nomination and be submitted by 2 June via the electronic form.

Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector of the University of Iceland, and Joan T.A. Gabel, President of the University of Minnesota, yesterday signed an agreement in Minneapolis extending the partnership between the universities by another five years.

Representatives of a newly appointed University of Iceland's University Council for the next two years met for their first meeting last Thursday 8 September.
