Interim evaluation: Hrafnhildur Kvaran Tuesday 6th May 2025 at 8 am.
Refugee children and youth in Iceland´s compulsory and upper secondary schools: Educational aspirations and experiences of inclusion. The aim of the research is to critically analyse the challenges and opportunities encountered by refugee children and youth in the Icelandic education system. Special emphasis is placed on their educational aspirations and how their academic progress is supported. The research is part of the research project A Part and Apart? Education and social inclusion of refugee children and youth in Iceland (ESRCI) (2023-2026).
The evaluation is in two parts: First the doctoral student ‘s presentation of her report at 8 to 9 am on Zoom. The presentation is open to postgraduate students and staff of the School of Education. The presentation will also be on Zoom: https://eu01web.zoom.us/j/64364235724
Secondly, a review meeting for a discussion of the report. The meeting is open only to the doctoral student and the evaluation committee. The purpose of the evaluation is twofold, as the rules of the Doctoral School indicate: To evaluate the doctoral student‘s competence in conducting the proposed doctoral research project and to provide her with feedback to do this as well as may be.
External examiners are Dr Lisa Rosen Professor at University of Kaiserslautern-Landau, Germany and Dr Michelle Proyer Professor at University Luxembourg, Luxembourg, the lead supervisor Dr Hermína Gunnþórsdóttir Professor at the Faculty of Education, University of Akureyri, co-supervisor Dr Hanna Ragnarsdóttir Professor at the School of Education, University of Iceland. Dr Annadís G. Rúdólfsdóttir Professor at School of Education is heading the evaluation committee and will conduct the evaluation meeting and Sigrún Sif Eyfeld Jóelsdóttir will act as secretary.
