'Global Surrealism' is organized by the Institute of Research in Literature and Visual Arts and takes place on 6-7 June 2025 at the University of Iceland. The keynote speakers are Abigail Susik (Willamette University) and Kristoffer Noheden (Stockholm University). The symposium explores surrealism as a global phenomenon, emphasizing the transnational and transcultural facets of the movement. From investigating the role and significance of surrealism in different cultural areas, analyzing surrealist praxis and revolutionary strategies, to mapping out surrealist networks and international collaborations.
The panels will take place at Veröld (VHV-023) and the University Center (HT-101).
The symposium is funded by RANNÍS (the Icelandic Research Fund), the Conference Fund of the School of Humanities, and the Rector of University of Iceland Funds.
