Level, length and credits

The University of Iceland offers programmes on three levels:

  • Three-year undergraduate programmes leading to a Bachelor's degree (BA/BS/B.Ed)
  • Two-year graduate programmes leading to a Master's degree (MA/MS/M.Ed.)
  • Three-year doctoral programmes (Ph.D./Ed.D.)

In addition to this, shorter diploma programmes are available at both the Bachelor and Master levels.

One year of full-time study amounts to 60 credits, 30 per semester.

University of Iceland credits are equal to ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).

All applicants must apply for one of the study programmes on offer and then select courses accordingly. It is not possible to apply for individual courses.
