About the graduation

The University of Iceland graduates students three times a year; in February, June, and October. The next graduation at the University of Iceland will be held on Saturday 14 June in Laugardalshöll.

The graduation ceremony will be held in two stages and is open to both graduates and their guests.

Candidates are kindly asked to arrive no later than 30 minutes before each ceremony. Each candidate is welcome to bring two guests.

  • The first ceremony will begin at 10 a.m for candidates graduating from undergraduate and graduate studies from the School of Social Sciences, School of Health Sciences, and the School of Humanities.
  • The second one begins at 1.30 p.m. for candidates graduating from undergraduate and graduate studies from the School of Education and School of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

By taking part in the graduating ceremony graduates commit to stay until the ceremony is over.

Graduates will receive a letter with further information closer to the date.

Students who intend to graduate shall specify the graduation month well in advance of the scheduled graduation date. This can be done in the Ugla intraweb, when reviewing course registration, autumn and spring.

The candidates who cannot attend the ceremony can collect their certificates at the Faculty office, after the ceremony.

Good to know

Students graduating with undergraduate- and graduate studies receive their Degree Certificate and the Diploma Supplement at graduation.

The Diploma Supplement provides a standardised description of the nature, level, context, content, and status of the study programme completed.

The Diploma Supplement also contains a transcript of records.

The Diploma Supplement is issued in a widely spoken European language, given automatically and free of charge to every student upon graduation.

The Degree Certificate is issued in Icelandic with a certified translation into English, but the Diploma Supplement is issued in Icelandic and English.

Candidates are advised to preserve their Degree Certificates well!
Each degree certificate is only issued in a single copy, signed by the respective head of faculty.

The degree certificate is never, under any circumstances re-issued. It is the responsibility of the candidate to safeguard the certificate.
