Erasmus+ traineeships

Traineeships give students valuable international work experience that can be useful in today’s increasingly competitive job market.

Students gain practical work experience and can have the traineeship recognised as part of their studies at UI. They can also do it as part of their thesis or have it recorded in their diploma supplement.

A traineeship can also bridge the gap between education and work, since students may pursue a traineeship after graduation.

The stay must be between two and twelve months. It is also possible to apply for a short mobility from 5-30 days.

Students may also pursue a traineeship up to six months after completing a degree, but note that the application must be submitted no later than two months before you graduate from the University of Iceland.

Travel and Maintenance Grants

Students at the University of Iceland may apply for an Erasmus+ grant to fund traineeships or research work in European universities, companies, or institutes.

Grant sums are determined by destination. Travel grants are between EUR 275-820 and maintenance grants are between EUR 640-690 a month (note that the amounts may vary depending on the academic year).

Students apply for an Erasmus+ traineeshipship grant with the International Division.

The annual application deadline is 1 April (or the next working day if the deadline is a public holiday). Applications submitted after the deadline will be accepted, but those who apply before 1 April will be given priority.

How to start the process

Students are responsible for contacting universities, companies, or institutions to inquire about traineeship opportunities. Students can also apply for any advertised traineeships they find.
