Living a healthy live at UI

Living a healthy life at the University of Iceland, like any other university, requires a balance between academics, social life, and personal well-being.

University life can be demanding, but taking care of your health and well-being is crucial for academic success and overall happiness. Don't hesitate to seek help or support when needed, and enjoy your time at the University of Iceland to the fullest!

Tips to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle

Maintain a balanced diet by incorporating fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats into your meals. Avoid excessive junk food, sugary snacks and processed foods. The best prices for groceries are normally found in the supermarkets Krónan and Bónus.

Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated, especially during long study sessions or physical activities. You can drink tap water almost everywhere in Iceland.

Incorporate regular exercise into your routine. Join fitness classes or sports teams or use the University's gym facilities to stay active.

The UI Gym is located next to University Centre. The Gym offers scheduled group classes in the hall and fitness suite facilities. Groups can also hire the hall, for example, for ball games or other sports. There is a sauna in the basement of the Gym.

A one-year pass costs just ISK 12,000. Half year 6,000 ISK. Passes are sold at the Service Desk in the University Centre and are valid for all advertised open sessions in the hall, fitness suite, and sauna.

Ask your fellow students or the staff at the Service Desk to help you find sports teams or clubs that suit you.

Create a study schedule that allows you to balance academics, social life, and personal time effectively. Avoid procrastination to reduce stress levels.

Seek support from the Student Counselling Centre if you need help with time management.

Take care of your mental health by seeking support if needed. The University of Iceland offers counselling services and resources for students facing emotional challenges. Seek support from Psychological Services if needed.

Maintain a social life and make friends. Engage in student clubs, events and extracurricular activities to meet new people and build a support network. Connect with people on social media. You can start connecting with international students at the University of Iceland on Facebook.

It is important to be mindful of your alcohol consumption and avoid using drugs or other harmful substances. If you think you need to make a change in your lifestyle, don't hesitate to seek counselling.

Take advantage of Iceland's beautiful landscapes and nature. Go for hikes, explore the outdoors, and engage in activities that help you unwind and de-stress. Check out the Visitor's Guide wibsite.

Practice good personal hygiene, including regular handwashing, to prevent illnesses and promote overall well-being.
