Abstract

The main subjects of the research are the nutritional status of the elderly and age-related loss of function related to nutrition. The study investigates how food choices and nutritional status can impact well-being and skills in ageing or following a hospital stay. I have also worked on recommendations for food and nutrition for older age groups in collaboration with the Swedish National Institute of Public Health and on updating the new Nordic recommendations for protein intake. Professor of nutrition at the University of Iceland's Faculty of Food and Nutrition. My research interests focus on the nutritional status of older adults and how nutrition can influence age-related loss of function. To gain insight into how dietary choices and nutritional status can impact the well-being and abilities of older individuals, particularly after hospitalisation. In addition, I was part of the working group that published the Icelandic recommendations for food and nutrition for older age groups (HYPERLINK "https://island.is/naering-radleggingar-landlaeknis/naering-eldra-folk") and contributed to the new Nordic recommendations for protein intake (HYPERLINK "https://www.norden.org/en/publication/nordic-nutrition-recommendations-2023").
