Abstract

Jón Ingvar Kjaran is a sociologist and anthropologist. They are a professor in the Department of Diversity and Education at the University of Iceland, School of Education. Their research interests include the social situations of LGBTIQ+ individuals worldwide, transgender and gender studies, race and ethnicity, sexual health and HIV education, migration, and various forms of violence experienced by marginalized groups. In their research, they emphasize the intersection of different variables, such as gender, race, social background, economic status, and sexuality. They have participated in numerous national and international research projects and have authored and co-authored many publications in the fields of gender and sexuality, especially concerning LGBTIQ+ individuals in Iceland, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Iran. They also serve as a regular reviewer for the European Educational Research Association (EERA) and academic journals in their field, such as the International Journal of Inclusive Education, Journal of Homosexuality, Gender and Education, Sex Education, and Sexualities.
