Abstract

My research is within glacial geology, glacial stratigraphy and paleoclimate. I have been working origins of climate change, especially changes in glacier dimensions in Iceland since the onset of glaciation ca 3 ma. My recent research focus is on the evolution of Holocene climate (the last ca 11 ka) derived from lake and marine sediments using a suite of geochemical proxies and biomarkers. I am Affiliate with INSTAAR and has a Graduate Faculty Appointment at the University of Colorado Boulder. I have collaborated with colleagues from Europe, Canada and the US in large international projects synthesizing high latitude climate change on millennial timescales. Lately my interest has been devoted to the question of the origin of soil erosion and landscape instability in Iceland, isolating the potential impacts of climate, volcanic eruptions and human colonization of Iceland on the landscape by the use of biomarkers and sedaDNA.
