About our MA in Sociology
Our MA programme is taught in English, so when you choose to study at the University of Iceland, you will be part of an international community of Icelandic and international students. With support from our faculty, you will explore various topics, methodologies and areas of specialisation as you work towards your MA in an inspiring and friendly environment.
Why Iceland?
The smallness of the country’s population and the unique data resources available about the whole (or a large part of the population) offer rare opportunities to conduct social research on a society that in many ways represents a micro-version of larger societies, yet having many unique characteristics.
BA, B.Ed, BS degree with First Class grades or equivalent. All international applicants, whose native language is not English, are required to provide results of the TOEFL (79) or IELTS (6.5) tests as evidence of English proficiency.
Students not holding a BA degree in Sociology are required to take three undergraduate courses in Sociology or have completed equivalent courses: FÉL204G Methodology: Social Science Research Methods., FÉL306G Statistics I: Introduction and a course in Sociological Theory in parallel with MA studies. The undergraduate courses are taught in Icelandic.
Social Life
Students at the faculty run strong student associations that protect the students' interests and organise various events. The student associations create a platform for students to strengthen their social position within the university.
