
The Research Center of the University of Iceland in Suðurnes was officially established in 2004. The center is a professionally independent unit that comes under the University's Research Center Foundation.
Its main tasks are to:
- Promote a variety of university education in Suðurnes.
- Promote Nordic and international courses.
- Strengthen the relationship between the University of Iceland and business and community life in Suðurnes.
- Assistance with research on the nature of Suðurnes and on the nature of Iceland.
- Assist students with research at the center.
Other regular tasks include:
- Mediation and training (teaching).
- University education (domestic/international).
- Teaching international courses.
- Research-based graduate studies.
- Service and advice.
- International cooperation.
- Cooperation agreements and European projects.
- Participation in international conferences.
- Publication of scientific articles.
