Work in innovation and applied sciences

The University of Iceland collaborates extensively with companies and institutes creating diverse opportunities for students and staff to work in innovation and applied sciences.

These opportunities may lie in:

  • research collaboration with companies and institutes
  • traineeship
  • part-time, summer, or future jobs in projects that have to do with innovation

Students and staff can furthermore seek varied assistance for innovative and entrepreneurial work within the university.

Support

The University employs student and career counselors to help students bridge the gap between their studies and careers who can help with:

  • CVs
  • Cover letters    
  • Résumés
  • Preparing for job interviews.

The Network Forum is a platform at the UI where companies and institutes can advertise part-time, summer, or permanent positions, various job-related projects or opportunities for traineeship for University students. UI collaborates extensively with industry on traineeship (in Icelandic) in undergraduate and graduate studies in order to connect ambitious students with companies and institutes for the benefit of all. 

UI students are also eligible to apply for traineeships at international institutuion in order to learn about Intellectual Property. Application deadlines are advertised yearly and we encourage all interested to familiarise themselves with these opportunities.

Career Days at the University of Iceland is an annual event focused on the job market and how students can prepare to enter.

The University of Iceland supports those who are interested in innovation in various ways; such as providing consultation and facilities. The University also organizes the annual competition for the University's Science and Innovation Award with a substantial cash prize and collaborates on various other innovative platforms.

Innovation at UI

Innovation plays a huge part in the work of the University of Iceland and a large number of companies have been founded in recent years based on entrepreneurship, research, and ideas conceived on our campus. The Intellectual Property Committee of the University of Iceland and Landspítali University Hospital has been involved in the foundation of over 20 companies owned by University staff and the University itself.

On the website Start-ups at the University of Iceland, you can find information on all the start-ups that have developed out of innovative projects at the University, from 2000 to the present day.
