Innovating Surfaces, Transforming Lives

Minamo provides innovative and eco-conscious solutions for countering nosocomial (healthcare-associated) infections linked to silicone-based medical devices. Our mission extends to preventing biofouling on orthotic devices and enhancing the biocompatibility of silicone implants.

Our story

Minamo, founded in 2023 as a spinoff from the University of Iceland by Már Másson and Vivien Nagy, emerges from the cutting-edge work of Már's research group at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Pioneering advancements in biopolymers and material sciences, their extensive research journey has culminated in a revolutionary discovery—a novel silicone coating engineered to deter bacterial adhesion. Recognized through grants and awards, the Minamo technology proudly stands as a patent-pending testament to innovation and impactful research.

Minamo Technology

The patent-pending Minamo coating technology consists of two steps:

  1. Environmentally friendly surface activation with simple hydroxyl amines, using non-toxic solvent to introduce amino groups to the silicone surface. The presence of amino groups can be confirmed by ninhydrin- and FITC assays.
  2. Coating with biomolecules to confer antimicrobial properties to the silicone surface.

The Minamo technology presents a novel approach without occupational hazards,  environmental concerns or regulatory barriers.
