Student social life is important

There's more to university than attending lectures and completing assignments. At the University of Iceland, we know that the social side of student life is also important.

The Student Council (SHÍ) promotes and protects the interests of students at the University of Iceland. The council organises large events for all UI students, such as Oktoberfest and end-of-exams dances in the autumn and spring semesters.

There are specific student organisations for each subject. You can find out which organisation to join by checking the list of student organisations on the Student Council website (see link above).

The University Dance is a student dance group that meets regularly and offers courses in various styles such as hip hop, lindy hop, salsa, and swing. All students are welcome to join and register. Registration fees are kept to a minimum.

Please visit the University Dance website.

If you enjoy watching performance art and self-expression, or if you simply appreciate any form of art, you might be interested in checking out the Student Theatre group. Every semester, the group puts up a show that is completely organised by students. You can find more information about the group on their Facebook page, which is called "Stúdentaleikhúsið".

Iceland's distinctive geography makes it an ideal location for different outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, cycling, and exploring its breathtaking landscapes. Outdoor activities are well-liked among students. You can invite your fellow students to join you on a hike or rent a bike and explore the countryside around Reykjavik.
