University fees including tuition fees

The University of Iceland charges tuition fee for one academic year (60 ECTS) at a time. It is not possible to split the payment into additional instalments.

The letter with your offer of admission will include instructions on how to make the payment.

Payments must be made before the deadline 4th July.

Payment can only be made in Icelandic Krona (ISK).

An application processing fee is paid once for each application by new students. The fee is only charged if your citizenship is outside the EU/EEA/EFTA.

You can pay by card online in the Application Portal when you submit the application. Payment options will appear after you click "Send application".

The application handling and processing fee is non-refundable.

You are exempt from paying tuition fees if you:

1. hold a permanent residence permit in Iceland, according to Article 58 of the Foreign Nationals Act, or are a family member of a person with a permanent residence permit under Article 69 of the Foreign Nationals Act;
   
2. are a family member of an Icelandic citizen, pursuant to Article 69 of the Foreign Nationals Act, or a family member of an EEA/EFTA citizen, pursuant to Chapter XI of the Foreign Nationals Act;
   
3. hold a residence permit on grounds of international protection, pursuant to Article 73 of the Foreign Nationals Act, or a residence permit on humanitarian grounds, pursuant to Article 74 of the Foreign Nationals Act;
   
4. are studying at an Icelandic university through an international university partnership, international cooperation programme or international university network;
   
5. are studying at an Icelandic university within Iceland's international development cooperation programmes;
   
6. are enrolled in a doctoral (PhD) programme at an Icelandic university; or
   
7. are a citizen of Greenland, the Faroe Islands or Switzerland.
   
8. have the same rights as Icelandic citizens with regard to university tuition fees, or are entitled to an exemption from such fees under an international agreement binding on Iceland.

Refunds are permitted if conditions are met. Pending

Refunds will be made to the original payer using the same payment method as the original transaction. Any bank charges or transaction fees associated with the refund will be borne by the payer.

Please note that our bank may retain a service fee when processing the reimbursement. The person who paid (sender of the payment) bears the payment transaction fees.

Payment and refunds involving third parties

If payment is made by a third party, any refund will be issued to the original payer, not the applicant. Refunds will only be made to the credit card or bank account used for the original payment. No exceptions can be made.

Individuals with a certified disability can contact the Student Registration Office for information about a possible reduction of the registration fee.

The reduction only applies to students having Icelandic Disability Benefits from Tryggingastofnun.

The registration fee needs to be paid by the due date of 4 July. Registration for studies at the University of Iceland is confirmed upon payment of the registration fee.

You need to pay the registration fee via the Application Portal by debit or credit card.

The registration fee is non-refundable for all students, international as well as Icelandic residents.

The registration fee must be paid alongside the annual course registration. The fee can be paid online by debit or credit card.

If the registration fee is not paid by the due date, the student is considered to have withdrawn from the study programme.
