Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for UI students

The Student Psychology Clinic is a training centre for clinical psychology students. UI students can access CBT for various disorders. We also offer behaviour counselling and anxiety treatment for the children of UI students.

The clinic was founded in 2013. Its primary role is to train students of clinical psychology in the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of common mental disorders. We are open from September to December and from January to May.

The first interview at the Student Psychology Clinic is always an assessment interview and takes approximately 90 minutes. This session is focused on screening and assessment using standardised measurements.

After the diagnostic interview, we may offer treatment based on our assessment. We mostly treat common mental disorders such as:

  • Depression
  • Social anxiety
  • Panic disorder
  • Insomnia
  • Simple phobia
  • Alcohol abuse

We do consider treating other problems if they are suitable cases for short term treatment. We usually start with 10 sessions of treatment, but some treatments may be shorter, e.g. for simple phobia and alcohol abuse.

Each interview costs ISK 1,500, though the length of an interview may vary. The initial interview is 90 minutes, a standard interview is usually 60 minutes, and an interview with exposure can be as long as 180 minutes.

The Student Psychology Clinic is not equipped to deal with acute psychiatric problems. If you have a sudden or severe psychiatric problem you can contact the Landspítali Psychiatric Emergency Room: +354 543 4050.
