Dental services

The University of Iceland Faculty of Odontology provides dental services for the general public. The service is available while teaching is in session, from mid-August until November and from early January until mid-April.The primary aim of teaching at the Faculty of Odontology is to train dentists. A large part of the programme is about treating patients. Student dentists learn to provide a wide range of treatments, for example dental cleaning, root canal procedures, fillings and dental prosthesis.

Student dentists provide treatments supervised by their instructors in the Faculty of Odontology's clinical teaching facilities on the second floor in Læknagarður, Vatnsmýrarvegur 16.

Further information

If you are interested in being treated by students at the University of Iceland Faculty of Odontology, the first step is booking an appointment for examination and diagnosis.

This appointment is used to ascertain which treatments you require and whether these treatments can be provided by our students.

If the students are unable to provide treatment, you will have to book an appointment at a dental clinic. It is necessary to book the initial examination and diagnosis for adults.

You do not need to book an appointment for children (aged 17 or younger).

For children, you will need to register them by calling + 354 525 4850.

There is no fee for children's dental treatments due to an agreement with Icelandic Health Insurance.

Student dentists in their 4th, 5th and 6th year of study provide dental services under the supervision of qualified dentists, clinical teaching staff.

Services generally take longer than at a normal dental clinic.

Services are available while teaching is in session, from mid-August until November and from early January until mid-April.

Prices vary depending on treatment.

The student dentist will examine you, diagnose any issues and determine in consultation with the instructor what treatment you require.

If the student dentist is able to provide the treatment, you can request a cost estimate.

Unfortunately, it is not always possible to provide patients with the treatment they require, in which case they are encouraged to seek treatment from a dental clinic.

Payments are required for each appointment, except in the case of a more major project when there may be a specific cost agreement.

You can book an appointment over the phone.

Tel.: + 354 525 4850
Booking between:

  • 9:00-11:30 and
  • 13:00 - 16:00

on working days during term time, from mid-August to the end of November and from early January to mid-April.

You will receive an text message reminder the day before your appointment.

If you are unable to attend, please phone to cancel your appointment as soon as possible.

It is very important for students to be able to use the time they have for clinical training, so they need to have the flexibility to offer the appointment to another patient.

If you repeatedly fail to attend an appointment without cancelling, the student will be unable to offer another appointment due to the progression of their studies.

Unfortunately we do not offer emergency dental treatment at the University of Iceland Faculty of Odontology.

In an emergency, please contact your own dentist or the Icelandic Dental Association's emergency line
