Summer courses

Summer courses are a good way for students to take part of their studies abroad and they can be the perfect opportunity for those who are unable to go abroad for a semester or the full academic year.

If you are interested in having credits from summer courses transferred to your programme at UI, you will need to consult your faculty before departure. You must fill in a Learning Agreement that your faculty will need to approve.

The International Division oversees applications and nominations for summer programmes at the following institutions:

  • Stanford University, USA
  • Columbia University, USA
  • Nordic Centre, Fudan University, China
  • Nordic Centre India, Hyderabad and Bangalore, India

The International Division also nominates students to participate in Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).

Please note that this is a two-step application process. Students first apply to the University of Iceland, where a selection committee evaluates their academic achievements, letters of recommendation, future plans and an interview. Selected students are then nominated to Stanford and proceed with the Stanford application process.

Students fill out an online application, with attached supporting documents (in English).
