Thirteen new heads of faculty took office at the University of Iceland on 1 July as well as a new dean of the School of Health Sciences. Two University faculties take up a new name.
School of Social Sciences
- Ólafur Rastrick takes over as head of the Faculty of Sociology, Anthropology and Folkloristics from Jónína Einarsdóttir.
- Hervör Alma Árnadóttir takes over as head of the Faculty of Social Work from Guðný Björk Eydal.
- Eva Marín Hlynsdóttir takes over as head of the Faculty of Political Science from Maximilian Conrad.
School of Health Sciences
- Unnur Þorsteinsdóttir is the new Dean of the School of Health Sciences taking over from Inga Þórsdóttir.
- Helga Bragadóttir is the new head of the Faculty of Nursing, currently the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, taking over from Herdís Sveinsdóttir.
- Ragnar Pétur Ólafsson takes over as head of the Faculty of Psychology from Urður Njarðvík.
School of Humanities
- Gauti Kristmannsson takes over as head of the Faculty of Icelandic and Comparative Cultural Studies from Torfi H. Tulinius.
- Sverrir Jakobsson takes over as head of the Faculty of History and Philosophy from Steinunn J. Kristjánsdóttir; but the faculty is currently called the Faculty of Philosophy, History and Archaeology.
School of Education
- Rannveig Björk Þorkelsdóttir takes over as head of the Faculty of Subject Teacher Education from Freyja Hreinsdóttir.
- Þórdís Lilja Gísladóttir takes over as head of the Faculty of Health Promotion, Sport and Leisure Studies from Ársæll Már Arnarsson.
School of Engineering and Natural Sciences
- Andri Stefánsson takes over as head of the Faculty of Earth Sciences from Freysteinn Sigmundsson.
- Snæbjörn Pásson takes over as head of the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences from Anna Dóra Sæþórsdóttir.
- Lotta María Ellingsen takes over as head of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering from Jóhannes Rúnar Sveinsson.
- Lára Jóhannsdóttir is the new head of department of the interdisciplinary environment and natural resources programme.
