The lecture is open to everyone.

When in 1519 the men of Hernán Cortés first saw the magnificence of Tenochtitlán, the Aztec city built over a lake, they thought they were dreaming. After its fall, the metropolis was called Ciudad de México (Mexico City) remaining a capital, first for the Viceroyalty of New Spain and then for independent México. We retrace the origins and development of this cosmopolitan centre, and reflect on its challenging present.
