Ceremonial Hall
Josep M. Garrell, President of the European University Association (EUA), will hold a public lecture in the University of Iceland´s Aula Ceremonial Hall on Wednesday 26 March at 2 pm. The title of his talk is “International university cooperation. Beyond the European Universities Alliances”.

In his talk Professor Garrell will discuss the history and challenges of European Universities Alliances – a flagship initiative of the European Commission intended to strengthen the cooperation of European universities and give them an edge in education and research in the competition with universities around the world. In his talk Professor Garrell will also discuss the future of international university cooperation in a world of geopolitical tensions.
Professor Garrell wil also participate in an panel discussion with Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector of the University of Iceland, and Ragnhildur Helgadóttir, Rector of Reykjavik University. The panel discussion will be led by Una Strand Vidarsdottir, Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Culture, Innovation, and Higher Education.
Josep M. Garrell was elected EUA President in 2023, having served on the Association’s Board since 2019. He is the former Rector of Ramon Llull University in Spain where he served from 2012-2022. Professor Garrell holds a Doctorate in Electronic Engineering from Ramon Llull University. As a faculty member and researcher at Ramon Llull University, he specialised in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
