Veröld - Hús Vigdísar
A symposium held by UNICEF Iceland, the School of Education, University of Iceland, and Home and School on the relationship between young people and their guardians in Iceland will take place in Veröld – Vigdís' house, Tuesday, May 27th, 9 - 10 a.m. Morning coffee will be served from 8:30 a.m.
UNICEF Iceland is holding a symposium in collaboration with Home and School and the School of Education at the University of Iceland to mark the release of a new report by UNICEF’s research center, Innocenti, on the state of children in wealthier countries, including Iceland. The report discusses child well-being and focuses on the development of children’s well-being and basic skills during a period that covers the main impacts of the Covid pandemic. The report states that relationships with parents have a major impact on children’s well-being, with Icelandic results showing that the proportion of 15-year-olds with high life satisfaction has decreased at the same time as the proportion of children of the same age who speak to their parents less than weekly is high.
The symposium will therefore focus on the well-being of children and their relationships with parents and family, and discuss how to improve support for parents.
The results of the report will be presented, followed by a panel discussion. A more detailed agenda and introductions to the participants will follow later.
