Felicity Davis, Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales, Australia and Aarhus University will give a talk in the GPMLS/BMC lecture series titled ""Volumetric calcium imaging of the mammary gland during lactation".

Overview: In this work, we used 4-dimensional imaging to explore how mammary basal (myoepithelial) cells respond to oxytocin for milk ejection. We uncovered essential roles for intra- and inter-cellular calcium signals in oxytocin-mediated milk ejection in lactating mice.

Bio: Assoc Prof Davis heads the Calcium Signalling Laboratories at the University of New South Wales (Australia) and Aarhus University (Denmark). Her research brings together expertise in calcium signalling, mammary biology and volumetric imaging, with the overarching goal of improving our understanding of mothers’, women’s and babies’ health. Assoc Prof Davis trained as a pharmacist before embarking on a PhD in the field of breast cancer at the University of Queensland. She subsequently trained at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIH/NIEHS) in North Carolina as an NIH Visiting Fellow and in the Department of Pathology and Cambridge Stem Cell Institute at University of Cambridge as an CJ Martin Fellow. In 2018, Felicity was awarded an National Health and Medical Research Council Career Development Fellowship and Project Grant to start her independent research group in Australia. She now runs two labs at the EMBL-Australia Node in Single Molecule Science in Australia and the Department of Biomedicine in Denmark, with generous support from the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia and Novo Nordisk Foundation.
