Jack Hicks has for decades worked with mental health issues, particularly among young people in Nunavut Canada. He has lived and worked there in different roles,  political advisory roles as well as conducting research. He is one of the authors of the Book "Made in Nunavut" (about the making and development of Nunavut as an autonomous region within the Canadian federation.  He has been a special expert advisor for the Canadian authorities on mental health issues in the indigenous North and has worked as SAA (Senior policy advisor for ITK (Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami/Inuit Tapirisat of Canada) and as SAO (Senior Administrative Officer) for Pangnirtung, Nunavut. He is an adjunct professor at the Medical college at Saskatchewan University.
