As a international student you can apply for a programme taught in Icelandic if you are an exchange student and intend to choose a course or courses taught in English (or other languages) within the programme.
You can also apply for programme taught in Icelandic if you are fluent in Icelandic.
Applying for a full programme taught in Icelandic requires you to understand, be able to communicate, read and write Icelandic to at least B2 standard of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). That is because lectures, exams and assignments are in Icelandic.
International students may apply for:
- Icelandic as a second language, for Practical Purposes with A1.1 standard of CEFR.
- Icelandic as a second language BA, if they have required skills needed to pass the admission exam. (See programme for further information).
Here you find the self-assessment grid for the Icelandic language.
