This project aims to create a safe and informal space for master’s students at the University of Iceland who are experiencing stress related to academic demands, personal life, and future responsibilities. In today’s academic environment, increasing pressure can lead to isolation, stress, and burnout, making it essential to provide accessible support systems that promote well-being and connection. The project is grounded in a preventive and empowerment-based approach, focusing on participants’ strengths, peer support, and active engagement. Its main goals are to reduce feelings of isolation, strengthen resilience and self-care, and increase awareness of personal boundaries and balance.
The program consists of four guided walking sessions in natural settings around the capital area, each lasting 60 minutes. Movement and nature are intentionally integrated to foster a relaxed atmosphere that encourages open and meaningful conversations. Each session includes a brief introduction, guided discussion during the walk, and a closing reflection. The sessions are structured around four key themes: understanding stress, boundaries and balance, resilience and strengths, and self-care with a future-oriented perspective.
The project draws on theoretical frameworks related to resilience, protective factors, peer support, and research on student stress and burnout. Expected outcomes include stronger social connections, reduced feelings of isolation, improved self-care practices, and increased awareness of coping strategies. Overall, the project offers a simple yet impactful way to support students’ mental well-being through connection, reflection, and shared experience.
