Swimingpool close to the University
Join us in talking and tubbing! Where we will discuss Icelandic swimming culture and create a cozy space for conversation in swimming pools near the university campus. We offer two free swimming trips in March where we meet at 1:30 PM in the lobby of a swimming pool near the University of Iceland and go to swimming pools together. The dates and locations are Thursday, March 12th at Sundhöll Reykjavíkur and Thursday, March 26th at Laugardalslaug.
The goal of the project is twofold. On the one hand, we want to introduce foreign and international students and other people who are interasted to the unique Icelandic swimming culture – the tradition of meeting regularly in swimming pools, relaxing in hot tubs and having conversations about life and everyday things. On the other hand, we want to create an open and safe space for people who experience loneliness or social isolation and offer a platform to form connections and meet new people.
The day begins with a short and accessible introduction to Icelandic swimming pools and the culture that has developed around them. Afterwards, there will be an informal chat in the pool where everyone participates on their own terms and according to their own comfort zone. There is no requirement for special knowledge or activity – the goal is simply to have a pleasant time together throughout the day. It is important to bring a swimsuit and a towel. Participants do NOT have to pay for admission to the pool. Please register for the event with sending an email to aag11@hi.is Looking forward to seeing you in the hot tubs! Aldís, Arna and Þorbjörg
