Dear colleagues,

The University of Iceland hosts the 10th conference of the Society for Risk Analysis Europe, Nordic Chapter, on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 October at Edda, Institute for Icelandic Studies. The theme is "Risk analysis in the Nordic area in a time of transition":

Keynotes are given by Katherine McComas (Cornell University) on risk perception and public acceptance of geothermal energy, and by Matthias Kokorsch (University Centre of the Westfjords) on the future of climate risk governance in Iceland.

Some 30 speakers will present work on topics including:

• energy transition and public trust
• disaster preparedness and vulnerability
• defence and democratic resilience
• catastrophic risk and decision-making under uncertainty
• risk management in remote and island communities

The conference closes on Friday with an open round table (12:50 to 13:50) on what small nations can do to mitigate national and global risks, with examples from Iceland and New Zealand. This session is open to everyone, whether registered for the conference or not.
