Science and innovation form the backbone of the government's new employment policy and are also part of the fundamental work of universities. Rapid technological and societal changes call for extensive research across fields and sectors to meet the needs of the future.
A seminar in Gróska on Friday, September 4, will discuss the role of universities in this changing environment, including artificial intelligence, infrastructure and data policy and policymaking in an innovation support environment such as the development of deep technology infrastructure in Iceland. What kind of support and community needs to be in place to foster the interaction of scientific research and innovation that serves Icelandic society and contributes to health, welfare and sustainability for the future?
The meeting is open to everyone and is part of continuing an important conversation at the university level around guidelines on research-based innovation and interactions with businesses and broader society.
Short presentations and discussions are offered under the direction of Rögnvaldur J. Sæmundsson, Pro-Rector of Science at the University of Iceland.
In addition to Rögnvaldur, speakers will include:
- Maria Theresa Norn, Deputy Director and Associate Professor at Entrepreneurship at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), senior researcher and expert in innovation policy.
- Kristinn R. Þórisson, Professor of Computer Science, Reykjavik University and founder of Icelandic Institute for Intelligent Machines.
- Eiríkur Stephensen, Research Infrastructure Manager at the University of Iceland.
- Þórey Einarsdóttir, Chief Executive Officer at UI Science Park.
- Kristján Guy Burgess, senior adviser at the Ministry of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education.
The seminar will be held in English.
