Abstract:
In this public presentation as part of the midway PhD qualification evaluation the on-going work to produce a long-term enhanced catalogue of seismicity in the Bárðarbunga volcanic system will be presented. The project focuses on the period since the major 2014–2015 Bárðarbunga-Holuhraun Rifting Event, where the major Bárðarbunga caldera collapse and subsequent rise has shown extensive patterned ring fault seismicity. The presentation will cover various aspects of the current progress on the PhD project. This will include background on the seismicity in Bárðarbunga, descriptions of the methods and tools being explored to process this valuable dataset, intermediate results and prospects of the project. Tools include template-matching, large-scale seismic data cross correlation, double-difference relocation and a new seismic data visualisation tool.
