School Practices in Vocational Education and Training in Iceland: Challenges in an Ever-Changing Landscape
The main aim of this study is to explore school practices in vocational education and training (VET) in Iceland, taking into account recent shifts in student demographics. The study is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on analyzing enrollment trends and changes in the student body composition. The second part focuses on school practices in three vocational programs, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses associated with meeting the needs of an increasingly diverse group of students.
The evaluation consists of two parts:
First, the doctoral student’s presentation of his report will take place from 1–2 pm in room S-285 í Saga. This presentation is open to postgraduate students and staff of the School of Education. It will also be available on Teams: Join the meeting now
Second, a review meeting will be held to discuss the report. This meeting is open only to the doctoral student and the evaluation committee.
The purpose of the evaluation, as outlined in the rules of the Doctoral School, is twofold: to assess the doctoral student’s competence in carrying out the proposed research project, and to provide the student with feedback to support them in doing so as effectively as possible.
External examiners are Dr Dr Per-Åke Rosvall professor at Umeå University, Sweden, and Dr Martina Wyszynska Johansson lecturer at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
Lead supervisor is Dr Elsa Eiríksdóttir professor at the School of Education, University of Iceland, co-supervisor Dr Valgerður S Bjarnadóttir associate professor at the School of Education, University of Iceland.
Dr Amalía Björnsdóttir professor at the School of Education is heading the evaluation committee and will conduct the evaluation meeting.
