The exhibition presented at Loftskeytastöðin is a journey through the early years of radio in Iceland, before the establishment of Ríkisútvarpið, the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service. It highlights a time when isolation between communities faded, Iceland became more closely connected to the wider world and radio established itself as a daily medium in Icelandic homes.
The history of radio is both the history of technology and of the devices that made it possible, but also the story of the sense of wonder that marked the earliest days of broadcasting. Through the exhibition, visitors are introduced to the beginnings of radio in Iceland, the first experiments that were carried out, and the dreams of the future that emerged here, on an island far north in the Atlantic Ocean.
You are warmly invited to the opening of the exhibition on Wednesday, 18 March, from 17:00–19:00, as we celebrate the 100th anniversary.
Light refreshments will be served for children and adults.
