Do you want to enhance your ability to teach in a diverse university community, promote equity, and create a safe and inclusive learning environment? In this practical workshop, we introduce the concept of accessibility and equity in education in a broad context. We explore how teachers can increase their awareness and develop teaching skills that meet the needs of diverse student groups, including students with disabilities and students with various diagnoses and learning challenges. In this practical workshop, we introduce the concept of accessibility and equity in education in a broad context. We explore how teachers can increase their awareness and develop teaching skills that meet the needs of diverse student groups, including students with disabilities and students with various diagnoses and learning challenges. We explore both physical and digital accessibility, with a particular focus on expanding the concept of “accessibility” to encompass all aspects of learning and teaching. The concepts of reasonable accommodation and the principle of equality will be discussed, and how they can be integrated into the overall structure of teaching will be discussed. We will also examine how these aspects appear in university work, both consciously and unconsciously, and what ways can be taken to address challenges related to diverse student groups. In the workshop, we will consider real examples of diverse students, where participants will work with practical examples to strengthen their teaching skills in the spirit of an inclusive philosophy. We will do exercises that encourage constructive dialogue, promote understanding of diversity and make it a strength in teaching. We will also look at how different approaches and perspectives can be integrated to support solution-oriented teaching methods. — Information on accessibility: Good accessibility. Parking, electric opening and elevator. Portable tables and chairs, no slope in the hall. Accessible restrooms on the 3rd floor, and gender-neutral restrooms on all floors.
