Welcome to a public talk by Guilherme Canela, Director for Digital Inclusion, Policies and Digital Transformation at UNESCO, on Thursday, 7 May at 13:00 in the lecture hall of Edda.

In this talk, Mr Canela will present the recently launched UNESCO Global Roadmap on Multilingualism in the Digital Era. One of the central questions discussed in the Roadmap is whether, and how, all languages can benefit from AI and language technology, and how to ensure that digital development does not deepen inequalities.

These questions are highly relevant for Iceland, both because of ongoing efforts to strengthen Icelandic in the digital age and because of the international work of the Vigdís International Centre with vulnerable and engangered languages as well as languages with a fewer number of speakers.

The talk is organised by the Vigdís International Centre and the Icelandic National Commission for UNESCO and is part of the programme of UNESCO Day 2026.

    Free entry.
    Everyone is welcome.
