With the incredible aurora we have all witnessed this past weekend, it is an honor for the Iceland Research Institute of Space Science along with Arctic Portal to host this panel discussion with the UVSQ research team from Université de Versailles. This research team has recently installed antennas in Stokkseyri which will receive data from their new satellite that was launched in 2025. This satellite, named Uvsq-Sat NG, is dedicated to addressing key climate and atmospheric challenges as well as studying the Aurora borealis and australis. (further info below**)

We will be discussing remote sensing, the specific area of heliogeophysics, radiometry and the broader fields of space science and international collaboration.

    Panel Speakers

    • Mustapha Meftah - UVSQ
    • Jan Borm - UVSQ
    • Ágúst Inngþórsson - RANNÍS
    • Gunnlaugur Björnsson - University of Iceland
    • Daníel Leeb, - Iceland Space Agency / IRISS

The Panel will begin at 16:00 be in the Fenjamýri meeting room on the ground floor of the Gróska Innovation house.

** Uvsq-Sat NG aims to capture auroral images between 60° and 80° geomagnetic latitude in both the northern and southern hemispheres. This capability will enable the study of auroral structures, with a particular focus on sub-auroral features, which remain less frequently observed and understood. The Antennas installed will receive Uvsq-Sat NG satellite data in the 401.7 to 402 MHz frequency range. Additionally, they aim to explore the possibility of observing the sky and auroras using ground-based observations, which could be combined with satellite data to enhance scientific analysis and improve our understanding of these phenomena.
